Born April 25, 1917, the First Lady of Song Ella Fitzgerald has influenced female jazz musicians for generations. The Kennedy Center presents a number of distinct performances in recognition of the centennial of the 1979 Kennedy Center Honoree and NEA Jazz Master’s birth.
Sherrie Maricle and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra dug out original charts from the Library of Congress to perform selections from Fitzgerald’s Ella Wishes You a Swingin’ Christmas (1960; Verve), and other big band tunes to put you in a toe-tappin’ holiday spirit. Vocalists to be announced at a later date.
